Why would i even think that?

I went and bought a watermelon today. I left it on the floor behind me, walked to the counter and paid for it.
When i got back ,a tall blonde lady , heavy makeup was standing chatting with the owner of the shops wife very close to the melon.
I waited abit watching them, waiting for an opening to retrieve it.
I wont seal it she said.
You can have it if you want i said.
But i was thinking something else.
Why would i ever think she was going to steal my melon and why did i say, you can have it if you want?
Why would she think , that i was thinking , she was wanting my melon.?  
I dont know. What was the tone of her voice? Not playful. More like , how dare you think i would steal your melon , you worm of a man.
I didnt feel like a worm of a man.
So i said ,  we are [my family and i ]  having watermelon and seafood for christmas .
To which she replied . You are half sorted then, with pearls of look at me ,im so witty laughter.
What im thinking ,only half .I can live with that.
But why did i say , you can have it, if you want? [meaning the melon]
Why did i say those words and not something else.?
I dont know.

I walked out  .That was funny i thought, the tall blonde lady laughed when the shop owners wife told me  i was half sorted.
